Wonder Woman was born Diana, daughter of Zeus, according to the legends created by the media. She was a princess of the fictional Themyscira Islands, home of the Amazons women warriors, where she was raised and trained most of her life.
She first appeared in 1941, during World War II, at a time when heroes were needed to soothe the world’s unrest. She was equipped with a magic whip that was gifted from the gods at birth. That whip, when used on an enemy, would become the “Lasso of Truth” and force the captured criminal to confess.
Her crown could also be used as a weapon because, when it was thrown, it would work like a boomerang (Tiara). To travel, she had an invisible plane. Because she has left her home in Themyscira to help with World War I, Diana is no longer allowed to return.
Instead, she lives in the world under the pseudonym of Diana Prince when she isn’t saving the world as Wonder Woman. (www.inverse.com).
About 35 years after being introduced to America, Diana Prince (Linda Carter) starred in a TV series that influenced more comics about the character. Wonder Woman appeared in 2016’s Batman v. Superman and then in her own film in 2017, starring Gal Gadot as the title character. She returned in 2020 for Wonder Woman 1984. A third film is currently in the works, but a release date has not been announced (www.inverse.com).
