A tradition around the world can become one in the U.S.

National Hanging Out Day is on April 19, but don’t go calling your friends to go to the mall. This National Day is all about hanging your laundry outside.

“Project Laundry List works with hundreds of other organizations to sponsor National Hanging Out Day” (National Hanging Out Day). It is a day to conserve energy, but it has so many other benefits.

Among those benefits are financial savings and environmental connections. When you use a clothesline for drying laundry, you conserve money, power and water. Dryers are popular appliances in the United States, but many countries rarely use them. Instead, the residents in some countries still hang clothes outside and let them air dry.

In their mission statement, Project Laundry List said that they hope that encouraging people to hang clothes on a clothesline, they can make “air-drying laundry and cold-water washing acceptable and desirable as simple and effective ways to save energy” (Wikipedia).

It’s easy for you and your family to celebrate National Hanging Out Day and save some money. Simply air dry your clothes and enjoy the nostalgia. While your clothes are on the line, take a picture, post it on social media with #hangingoutday, and spread the environmental fun.
