While the Stitchers’ Club isn’t new, it does have a new adviser this year.

Ms. Kimberly Carter had been the adviser last year, picking up the club before COVID shut down the school, but when she did not return to the Armijo campus, the club was in need of a new adviser. “I have been crocheting for 35 plus years and several of my students were in the club,” said Ms. Lori Rockwell, who became the new adviser at the beginning of the school year. “I asked [my students] if they wanted to start the club up again and they said yes. The rest is history, as they say.”

The club meets on Tuesdays at lunch via Google Meets. They teach different crochet techniques, work on projects together, share patterns and talk about life. In the past, they have crocheted hats to donate to Northbay Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit for newborn babies.

While students can participate for the social or creative aspect, there are benefits. Community / Action / Service (CAS) hours can be earned by International Baccalaureate (IB) students while other students might consider getting involved to develop community service hours to boost their college applications.
