In my freshman year, I started as a reporter for The Armijo Signal. At first it was interesting to see the way things worked when being part of a paper, as I had never questioned the effort being put into things like this before. When I was new in the position of a reporter, I didn’t know much about writing stories.
I soon found some techniques while writing and it became more enjoyable. However, it has been very useful because I’ve learned many things about writing.
Being a reporter also allowed me to share opinions and thoughts through articles. Learning about recent events, upcoming events, movements, etc. is also beneficial.
This year I am both an editor and a reporter. As an editor for the Contest section, I have seen how a website functions and have gotten to work the newspaper website, which I think is very important to know in this era. I had no idea there were so many opportunities for scholarships and things of that sort.
Writing for the newspaper, and serving as an editor, is something I would recommend, especially if you enjoy reading and writing. I began a bit skeptical, but am now grateful to have joined.
