They honor their parents, we honor them, too.

Like military officers, their children make sacrifices and overcome challenges. “April is designated as the Month of the Military Child,” as announced by the Department of Defense Education Activity, DoDEA. This month underscores “the important role military children play in the armed forces.”

There is an array of different events and activities military children can participate in during the month. The Military Child Education Coalition, MCEC, lists events to honor and entertain the offspring of children whose parents are serving around the world. For instance, the magazine On the Move will be having a quarterly publication dedicated to military children. To add on, The Call of the Arts Campaign, will be hosted by the MCEC and will allow military children from K-12 to submit their artwork.

Purple Up Day, April 15, is an annual observance that prompts people to wear purple as a way to show support and gratitude to military children. Purple refers to the joint environment of the military, as said by the MCEC.
