Diana Cuevas is the only student at Armijo whose birthday takes place on the Spring Equinox this year.

The Spring Equinox marks the first day of spring, as well as when the days begin to grow longer than the nights. Spring brings the plight of activity and new beginnings. For Cuevas, it’s the sign of another year’s complete revolution around the Sun. While she does prefer the cold and rainy weather of winter, the break from school for spring’s arrival is always a positive.

Cuevas’s family has birthdays scattered throughout the year, but both her niece and god-sister share their birthdays on the day after hers. While she may not have any birthday twins – on-campus, off, or celebrity-wise – it is easier to remember her two family members’ day.

This year, there aren’t many plans to celebrate, though, due to COVID. The barriers for hanging out with friends make celebrating a bit more complicated, but it won’t diminish from the occasion’s joviality.

Cuevas has one more birthday in high school, but she’s already considering the future. “I do plan on going to college, I’m still not so sure which one yet,” Cuevas said. “I plan on becoming an ultrasound technician when I graduate.”

“It is pretty great having our birthdays during spring, its beautiful weather,” Cuevas said. “I wouldn’t want a different birthday, I really like mine. I weirdly think it’s a very unique birthday.”
