Positive voice represents family

Sibling Spotlight – Adena and Tadd Brumme

“Having my brother on campus with me was not a really big deal,” said Adena Brumme. She and her brother Tadd rarely see each other on campus, even before distance learning. “We both had our own friends, and only saw each other after school, and sometimes not even that because he plays football.”

Since they are only a year apart, they have gone to the same elementary and middle schools together most of their lives. “I do not know if we will go to the same college, but it will most likely happen,” Adena said.

Choosing a college can be a challenge, but finding a career can be even more intimidating. “I really wanted to be a history teacher…but I don’t want to teach the upcoming generations, especially if there is new technology, I’d rather not use all of that,” she said. “But majoring in science or something close to that would be great because that was the main thing I wanted to do.”

Besides history and science, she is also interested in music and reading.
I really love to read, and I really love music. I love every type of music, just not upbeat types of songs, and rap. Not a big fan of those,” Adena said. “I prefer the 80s, and more. My favorite type of book genre is literature, and fantasy, but literature would have to be at the top.”

She also enjoys eating. “It’s a very random thing but if you’re bored food is always a good thing. “

Like most students in Class of 2021, her senior year is not at all what she expected, but she has looked on the bright side. “I don’t mind staying at home, because I always hated getting up and going [to school],” she said. “A part of me is surprised to say that I wouldn’t mind going back.”

Tadd is the youngest in the family and plans to graduate in 2022, but the Brumme family also includes brother Kaleb (26) and sisters Kaitlyn (23) and Macie (21).

While Tadd did not respond to interview requests, Adena thought she might know what he and the others would say about her: “That I am quiet, and easy to get along with, I guess. But they are siblings so, who knows that they would actually say? That is an unpredictable thing. It could be something so mean but you would not care because that’s what siblings do.”
