Time with the horses is time well spent.

Outside of his academic life, Sean-Cassidy Burgess spends his time to taking care of horses at Rush Ranch in Suisun City where he has “been volunteering for nearly six years,” he said.

After his grandmother passed, he said that he was drawn to the ranch. “I had recently moved to the city and saw the place a couple months, but didn’t stop but after I stopped and called and started volunteering.”

At Rush Ranch, Burgess helps feed, train, and exercise the horses. He additionally cleans stalls, fixes things when necessary, and works with people with disabilities. He has benefited a lot from volunteering there because he has spent time “working with amazing people, getting experience with working with horses, having the ability to work with beautiful horses,” he said.

Burgess plans to attend college after high school and thought of a handful of schools in mind. He has his own business where he sells tie-dye shirts and socks. He is also in Armijo’s Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) Club and is part of a dance team.
