DVD review – Flatliners in two centuries

Flatliners, a drama / horror / sci-fi movie about five medical students experimenting on near-death experiences was first released in 1990. It stared Kiefer Sutherland (Nelson Wright), Julia Roberts (Dr. Rachel Mannus), and Kevin Bacon (David Labraccio). These actors created a dynamic cast that left a lasting impression on the audience.

Nearly three decades later, in 2017, a movie sequel dealing with the same material was released. Again, “five medical students embark on a daring and dangerous experiment to gain insight into the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life,” according to www.thatsmye.com (https://rb.gy/dx4ryo).

The modern cast includes It Ellen Page (Courtney Holmes), Diego Luna (Ray) and Nina Dobrev (Marlo). Kiefer Sutherland appears in this version as Dr. Barry Wolfson, a change in name and character from the earlier movie.

I watched both movies and found them both to be good, but for different reasons. The critics were not as fond of the films, but everyone has his own opinion.
