Students volunteer for a variety of reasons. Some of them do it to enhance their college applications while others to it to gain experience in a field. Volunteer work is an amazing thing for anyone to do, but especially great when teenagers volunteer for good causes.

Jarvis Ferguson has decided that it is time for him to get on the volunteer bandwagon. After a brief training session, he started volunteering to watch younger kids when their parents can’t, definitely a needed position during COVID-19.

Ferguson and his friend had not selected the elementary school where they would tutor and mentor students, but they were expected to know by mid-January.

Like many of the students in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, Ferguson is using the volunteer experience for CAS hours. IB students are expected to earn about 50 hours in each of the categories: Creativity, Activity and Service.

Volunteer work is not new to Ferguson, however. He’s been working with kids for about a year now and took a break for a short period of time, but has recently gotten back into it and loves it.
