Be immersed in this virtual event filled with music, culture, and the messages and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. The event will kick off with a  performance from the country’s largest Black majority orchestra, The Inner City Orchestra of Los Angeles. Next, the King Study Group will uncover MLK’s “I’ve been to the mountaintop” speech which is known for its messages of workers’ rights. The third part of the event will be comparing the Black workers movement in Memphis from 1968 to present day. Lastly, the event ending with a story time and poetry workshop where excerpts of Alice Faye Duncan’s children book, Memphis, Martin, and the Mountaintop: The Sanitation Strike of 1968, will be read.
