Sports takes strength of mind

Netflix review: Rising Phoenix

Netflix Documentaries are sometimes interesting and other times not so much. I think if you are into inspirational and educational documentaries you’ll love this one.

Rising Phoenix is a documentary that mainly focuses on the London 2012 Paralympic games. It talks a little bit about the history of the games and a little bit about the future of the games as well.

The documentary focuses on the athletes and on some of the organizers. I personally don’t relate to what is going on in the film because I am not an athlete, but it gives really good insight into the athletes’ lives, the games, basically everything that goes on behind closed doors.

The main point is showing the struggles the Paralympics have faced throughout the years and how they have gotten through everything. I like that they not only included American and British athletes, but also athletes from different backgrounds. It was very touching to see a little of what the athletes have been through. It was wonderful hearing them talking about the differences in the sport and the different locations they have competed in. It taught me a lot.

Rising Phoenix is a good combination of interviews, personal backstories, and competition, allowing the athletes to have a voice and express themselves about the differences they feel throughout the games.

This documentary uplifted me because the athletes have limited mobility and still push through to do what they love. It made me realize that we only live once and might as well do what we want. It’s a very inspiring and uplifting film and it is very beautifully put together.
