Last year, Armijo adopted a new mascot and the students and staff became the Royals. While this is just a way to identify the school and its teams, there are four students at Armijo who are, perhaps, more invested in the royal life.

Nadine King, for instance, might be considered a ruler based on her last name. She started her Armijo career as an Indian, but is now a Royal. “My first name… means shower of blessing and hope,” she said. Her younger sister Ella and her younger brother Cyrus are two more Kings who are likely to join the Royals in the next few years.

King is rolling with the changes that COVID-19 has brought. “It hasn’t been that bad,” she said. Fortunately, she enjoys activities that can be done outdoors, like basketball and camping.

After she graduates in 2023, King hopes to earn a degree at UC Davis, but she would like to earn a living as a hairstylist.

She is not the only Armijo Royal with a royal name, although she was the only one who responded to an interview. Fellow sophomores Harvey King and King Yubari Holmes share the highest title in their name, and there is also freshman Princess Rheana Cruz.
