Finding movies to watch these days can be annoying and stressful, which is why I watched the first few episodes of Dash & Lily. It is available on Netflix.

Dash & Lily is an American romance comedy (romcom) about two people who “trade dares, dreams and desires in a notebook they pass back and forth across various New York City locations” (http://tiny.cc/dashlily). The show is based on the book called Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan.

The main characters in this show are two 17-year olds, Dash and Lily. The show is about fitting in, staying true to yourself and knowing what you want, no matter the circumstances. In this case Dash hates Christmas; he doesn’t have the spirit because he’s spending it away from his mom and because of his past experiences, but he finds a way to still enjoy himself after meeting Lily.

It is a pretty simple movie and it isn’t as confusing as I thought it would be since it’s a series and not a full movie. There are so many things that I loved about the show. The cinematography is beautiful and the concept of it is very interesting. In modern day you see people communicating through social media and not through a notebook they pass around, giving each other hints as to where the next location will be.

The show also includes a gay couple (Benny and Langston), which I think is amazing. It allows the actors to represent the queer community and mixed race community.

In a way, I could relate to Dash’s feelings towards Christmas. At one point in my life, I lost the spirit I had for Christmas and didn’t enjoy it as much as when I was just a kid. It made me pretty sad because I knew I didn’t like Christmas anymore and there was nothing I could do about it. The show is about finding a way to enjoy the holidays, whether or not your family is there to celebrate it with you, and as I got older I found ways I could enjoy it once again with my siblings and friends.

My absolute favorite character is Dash. I could relate to him in many ways and I just loved the fact that he found the spirit again. All the characters are pretty likeable, although some of them didn’t get as much screen time.

Overall, I would recommend this show to anyone who loves romcoms. In the midst of a global pandemic, the show will give viewers that nostalgic feeling of New York during the holiday season, as well as an escape from the real world for a few hours.
