Ghost stories are part of what add to Moresi’s charm.

Located in Clayton, there is a restaurant called Moresi’s Chophouse. Originally named La Croquet Restaurant, it was built in 1857 and can be considered one of the first buildings built in the city. According to residents of the area, this restaurant is haunted. By the way the story is told, in the 1800s, a miner got into an argument which eventually
escalated, which led to a shootout. During the shootout, a bullet was shot that hit a girl. People who witnessed it brought the girl into the restaurant where she soon passed away. According to Haunted Places, “her apparition is said to appear here from time to time.” To be more precise, according to Chris Fisher of ActiveRain.com, the young victim can be seen playing in front of the restaurant and even inside the kitchen.

To add the story, it is also said that a bloodstain in the area where she was cared for cannot be removed, but keeps reappearing after it is cleaned away. The restaurant itself keeps running, even after over 150 years, and according to the reviews in Yelp, it is worth a visit, even if you aren’t interested in its local ghost story. Even during the pandemic, when they have only been offering take-out and delivery, they continue getting four and five star reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor. It is a bit on the pricy side, but if you have a special occasion, or a special interest in ghosts and hauntings, this might be a great choice for you and a date, especially during the Halloween season.

While this may have no correlations to the restaurant, it is mentioned that other establishments in the city have similar occurrences. In front of Moresi’s restaurant, there is a saloon called Clayton Club and the people nearby claim that it, too, is haunted. Could this be tied to the story concerning the restaurant?
