REM celebrated 25 years with Monster
CD review
REM, which named its band after the dream state known as “rapid eye movement,” was formed in 1980. Two years ago, REM released the 25th anniversary of their CD called Monster. REM released a total of 15 CDs, and the original Monster is ranked #10 most famous out of all their albums. It was their ninth album.
This CD was originally released on September 27, 1994 and it earned two nominations. The band had been together for over 30 years, but broke up in 2011. In an interview with Vulture.com , Michael Stipe, lead singer and lyricist, said “I need to be away from this for a long time,” and the decision was made to make that forever.
According to Wikipedia, the album has been described as grunge and alternative rock. “Buck’s guitar work on the album was inspired by the tremolo-heavy guitar playing of Glen Johansson of Echobelly,” (Wikipedia). It hit No.1 on all billboards and became recognizable in CD stores because of the album cover with an orange color and a bear on it.
