Embrace who you are, no matter what size.

National Plus-Size Day takes place on October 6. The reason this event is placed on the calendar is for the men and women who may be larger but are also larger than life in so many ways. The celebration recognizes the talent, elegance, and the curves of the plus-size population. This day is meant to build confidence for plus-size women and men and to embrace everything they are proud of.

How this should be celebrated:

  • Wear that new style! Clothes that fit and are stylish allow us to step out into the world with confidence.
  • Retailers, consider broadening your plus-size selection. Listen to your clientele and provide styles they ask for.
  • Share your favorite look. Don’t be afraid to brag.
  • While you’re all dressed up, go out on the town.

Extraordinary beauty comes in all sizes. While National Plus-Size Day is only 24-hours long, celebrants should embrace their confidence and beautiful bodies every day. Ashley Graham is an award-winning plus-size model who shares body positive throughout social media. She is currently launching a new curvy swimsuit range and continues with body positivity. According to Marie Claire, she captioned one of her social media posts “a little cellulite never hurt nobody.., Stop judging yourself, embrace the things that society has called ‘ugly’.”

In the 1960’s, the revolution was everywhere. It wasn’t until the ‘80s that “plus-size” became the descriptor of choice for sizes 14 and up. Vogue and many magazines lacked plus -size models until Mode Magazine was dedicated to plus size model fashion community. According to Plus-Size fashion history, “These days, plus-size models are gracing the covers of magazines and walking the runway, and actresses of all sizes are starring in film and on TV.” Nowadays plus-size models continue vlogging and spreading body positivity throughout the world.
