Did you know that there is a slice of September that is dedicated to pizza? It’s true. September 5 is National Cheese Pizza Day.

This event was made for all the cheese pizza lovers to celebrate their love for the simple ‘za.

While many people associate pizza with Italy, it actually dates back to ancient Greece. They would top bread with cheese, oils, and herbs, similar to our own cheese pizza. Soon after, the simple dish made its way around the world.

Pizza facts:

• The first pizza shop was opened in 1905 in Little Italy, a region in New York.
• Currently, there are approximately over 61,000 pizzerias in the U.S.
• The largest pizza ever made was at the Norwood Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Most people love pizza, but there are conditions when it is right and when it is not. If it smells funny, for example, don’t eat it! If you see huge amounts of oil or grease, unless that’s how you like it, definitely don’t eat it. If your cheese pizza has dripping cheese, that means it’s ready to eat.

If you’re really a big pizza fan, you should consider visiting The Museum of Pizza in New York. (The U.S. Pizza Museum in Chicago closed last October.)
