Left or Right? Let the media be your guide

While journalism is supposed to be fair and unbiased, modern media outlets often miss the mark. Some stations tend to report with the purpose of appealing to the left, or liberal side. Others want to connect with the right, or conservative side.

The liberal side is often recognized as Democratic, while the conservative side is more focused on the Republican agenda.

When people rely on only one source of news, it creates a very slanted opinion, based on the bias of that source. A news consumer’s opinion can be biased based on the site – or the types of sites – that he or she reads.

The best way to create a balanced opinion on news is to look for sources that are balanced, sources that represent neither side as well as sources that represent the extremes on both sides. This can allow news consumers a chance to understand the opposing sides better and to make personal decisions that are well-informed and well-supported.
