All people of faith are encouraged to spend time in prayer for the country during the COVID-19 crisis.

The National Day of Prayer is on Thursday, May 7. It is a day where religious Americans come together and give thanks to God for health and pray for good fortune for America. The National Day of Prayer has been observed annually on the first Thursday of May since 1952.

COVID-19 has churches, mosques, temples and other places of worship closed and there can be no physical gatherings because of social distancing, but that will not stop the observance of this special day.

President Donald J. Trump has asked those who participate in the National Day of Prayer to “pray for the health and well-being of your fellow Americans and to remember that no problem is too big for God to handle.” Even though things are dark and hard to handle right now, Americans are encouraged, on the National Day of Prayer, to set aside time to find the light and power to keep going.

“In this time, we must not cease asking God for added wisdom, comfort, and strength, and we must especially pray for those who have suffered harm or who have lost loved ones,” said President Trump.

An added benefit to prayer is that it can be done anywhere, even while social distancing. For more information on this observance, go to https://www.nationaldayofprayer.org/.
