Coach Wallace knows that the season won’t be easy, but it will be rewarding.

Pierre Wallace has a lot to do this spring. During the day, he serves as a campus monitor, but in the afternoons and evenings, his primary role is that of badminton coach. “I love coaching for badminton,” he said.

Coach Wallace is in his first year as badminton coach, following over a decade of leadership by Coach Lawrence Trigg who retired last year. Coach Wallace said that he just wants to have the same leadership qualities that his predecessor had with the girls.

Before becoming a coach for the team, Coach Wallace played high school badminton. He also said that he is a five-year champion in his family barbecue games. One of his goals for this badminton season is to have all 16 girls in the first line up get to sectionals!

While Coach Wallace has come in with experience, he also has some help from Coach Michael Cendana. Together, one of the biggest challenges they faced was at try-outs, where 73 girls went through the paces, but only 46 were allowed to be part of the team. “It was really hard because it caused lots of tears and sad faces,” he said.

Coach Wallace has also coached football, basketball, tennis, and golf. He believes that if a person can put his or her mind to it, that person can do it, no matter what.
