Fresh colors and fresh flavors can be found at Farmers’ Markets.

A Farmers’ Market is “a public and  recurring assembly of farmers of their representatives selling the food that they produced directly to the consumers,” according to https://farmersmarketcoalition.org/education/qanda/.

A lot of people prefer to buy their groceries from Farmers’ Markets because the food is being sold directly from the farmers ensuring it is organic and fresh. This means that the shopper is helping the local farmer, and receiving benefits by doing so.

Shopping at Farmers’ Markets is generally cheaper because it goes directly from the farmers to the customer and there is no middleman adjusting the prices.

While many Farmers’ Markets are seasonable, Davis and Napa have one that is held every Saturday and features a variety of fruits, vegetables, food trucks and more. They also run one from April through September on Wednesday and Tuesdays respectively.

Some other Farmers’ Markets locally are Fairfield Farmers’ Market on Thursday afternoons, and Vacaville Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings, both of which will open in the spring.

People who want to get local produce can also visit several country stores around Solano County, including Fairfield’s Siebe Ranch Country Store and Larry’s Produce. Because produce is seasonal, oftentimes the Farmers’ Markets, or at least their selections, are as well. Some unusual foods that you normally can’t buy at a grocery store are sometimes available at these locations, including green zebra tomatoes, kohlrabi, pomelos, sunchokes, and cherimoya.
