Captain Marvel is another astounding Marvel Universe phenomenon starring the first lead female superhero, Brie Larson, as Carol Danvers/Vers/Captain Marvel. Also featured in the film are Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury , Annette Bening as Dr. Wendy Lawson, and Jude Jogg as Yon-Rogg. This movie was based on Stan Lee’s comic Mar-Vell which was originally a male, but in 1977 was made into Ms. Marvel.

At the films beginning, Vers is training as a warrior on another planet named Hala, and Yon-rogg continuously tells her to control her powers, and not show human emotions. When a rescue mission to extract a Kree operative from the Skrulls goes wrong she lands in Los Angeles in 1995 , soon finding out through flashbacks her true name is Carol Danvers. She befriends young S.H.I.E.L.D agent, Nick Fury, who helps her find out the truth, which leads to her realization that Kree people cannot be trusted and Skrulls were never what they made her believe.

The movie earned $455 million nationwide, and crossed the $1 billion line worldwide, making it Marvel Studios eighth most successful film with Avengers: Endgame taking the highest grossing in Marvel studios, and highest grossing movie ever, beating Avatar. The twists and turns in this movie were amazing along with the special effects. It had a lot of female stars, which was amazing to see more of in the Marvel Universe. Leila Harper said, “The movie was amazing, seeing Carol be this powerful female lead was so incredible to see.” Not everyone was supportive of the movie. “I didn’t like the movie because it didn’t have many diverse characters,” said Jasmine Dass. Overall, Captain Marvel is definitely worth watching. It’s now on DVD and available to stream now on Disney+.
