Basketball is one of the popular sports in America. While the professional franchises include both men’s teams and women’s teams, it all starts at the school level. Armijo has its own Girls’ Basketball team with both junior varsity (JV) and varsity levels. The captain of the JV squad is Diamond Tyo, who also plays point guard. Tyo is a great shooter, earning 2-point shots and 3-point shots consistently.
Tyo started playing basketball when she was in eighth grade. As a sophomore, she has also played volleyball and plans to play softball in the spring. Her favorite things about being on the basketball team is playing one of her favorite sports and making friends. Her cousin Arreunna is also on the team. During practice, the team works on lay-up lines, free throws, defense plays and offense plays and sometimes they do a scrimmage.
“Basketball is just a platform to inspire people,” said Tyo.
