Coach Marin joins his players in the pool so he can show them what to do.

Coach Robert Marin is a retired police officer who owns his own consulting business. That keeps him busy, but being a coach keeps him involved in the community at a different level.

For the past five years, Coach Marin has been working with Armijo aquatics and has done great work with the water polo team during those years. Not all of his coaching experience has been at Armijo, though. “I have coached swimming and water polo in Sacramento area and coached intermural basketball, soccer and flag football in Fairfield,” he said.

Coach Marin took on the roll at Armijo because he “wanted to give back to the community and share my passion for water polo and swimming,” he said. He also has a love for drag racing, restoring cars and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

If he could make a change to the things at Armijo, he said that he would change the lay-out of the pool “so that we could host tournaments and attract more swimmers and water polo players to our program.” More players would mean more interest in coaching, and if he were to offer advice to future coaches, he would tell them, “Pick a sport that you enjoy and have a passion for learn as much as you can and most important be patient.”

“It has truly been an honor coaching the student athletes at Armijo High School and watching their progress as they head onto their next chapter in life,” Coach Marin said. “Also, I am very appreciative of the support the program has received from the Armijo staff, parents and coaches which keep the Aquatics program progressing forward.”
