The phenomenal musical The Greatest Showman is loosely based on the true story of P.T Barnum, who founded the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. The movie is a drama/romance rated PG, directed by Michael Gracey. It stars Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum, Zac Efron as Philip Caryle, and Zendaya as Wheeler.

The movie begins with P.T. Barnum, a poor boy struggling to make a life for himself, who ends up meeting a wealthy girl named Charity (Michelle Williams) during one of his tailoring jobs. He ends up falling in love with Charity, and throughout the years Barnum begins working different jobs to make a living that he can continue to impress her.

A few years later, he becomes stable enough to marry his longtime love, and they have two gorgeous girls. “You don’t need everyone to love you, just a few good people,” says Charity Barnum.

Her husband ends up coming up with an idea to go into show business to create a circus of people who may be labeled as “freaks.” His wife agrees and, in the film, says “No one ever made a difference by being like everyone else.”

Throughout the events of the movie and the fantastic musical numbers, the characters learn not to forget where they came from and to value those that have stood beside them.

This film is definitely worth watching and deserves all the praise that it got when it was first released in theaters on December 20, 2017. Hugh Jackman’s acting was astonishing, although Barnum was portrayed as a nice businessman, even though he wasn’t in real life. The Greatest Showman is extraordinary. Each song is marvelous, along with the cast.

It made $435 million at the box office, and went on to win some awards such as Teen Choice Award for choice movie drama and three other teen choice awards, as well as the Bandung Film Festival for Imported Film in 2018.

If you love musicals, such as Grease, La La Land, High School Musical, and A Star is Born, you definitely won’t regret watching this one.
