A long way from home, with good reason

There’s no place like home, even when you aren’t in the country.

Diego Efran Garcia Caro descibed his hometown as “very cozy, since all of my family and friends are there. And the atmosphere was comfortable.” Although he was comfortable there, he and his uncles knew that they would experience a better life if the moved to the United States, so he did just that in August.

It’s not easy stepping away from family and friends, and of course he misses those things, but he also misses the food that he was familiar with in his home country. He does continue to enjoy Brazillian music, even here in California.

What he likes about Armijo is that “the teachers want to teach you, even if they don’t speak the same language.” And he is ready to learn. His goals after graduation include going to Solano Community College to continue his education.

Garcia is not currently involved in sports or other extra-curricular activities, although he wants to be.

He is not sure if he will ever return to his home country, at least not for a long stay, but he does still have friends and family that he has left behind and that’s not always easy.
