Population counts show that the Republic of Honduras has about 8 million people, but over the summer Samantha Giron left her beautiful homeland to come live with her mother, who lived in the United States, and her two sisters.

Honduras is famous for its coffee, sugar and fruit, but Giron is one of the best exports. “It’s a very beautiful place,” she said, and she misses the family and friends she left behind but she does not plan to move back. Instead, she wants to stay in the United States, finish high school and find a job. She also intends to go to college, “but I’m not sure where,” she said.

While Giron is not personally involved in any sports or extra-curricular activities yet, she does enjoy watching the cheerleaders at the Armijo football games.
