Feeding her spirit as a volunteer

Kylie Shield setting a good example

Kylie Shields likes the idea of helping others. She and her friends have discovered that one of the best ways to do that is to volunteer at the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.

Not everyone is aware of what that opportunity is. A food bank is a place that gives food to families in need, and they need volunteers to do that. Shields volunteers there because “it helps me feel better about our community, that we are helping people,” she said. She acknowledged that feeding people through a food bank is a wonderful cause.

This volunteer opportunity effects Shields in a positive way because it makes her feel accomplished. She loves helping those who need the extra help and doing it with her friends has been a great way to improve the community. The food bank is the only place Shields volunteers but she said that she wants to do more.

It’s not always easy for Shields to find time to volunteer. She works and has to find time for her school work. She is an International Baccalaureate (IB) student, which means she has a pretty full class load. She also likes to swim and read books for fun.
