Ramon Ayala, aka Daddy Yankee, was born February 3, 1977 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He started singing when he was 13 but it was mostly for fun. He really got his rhythm later on.

Yankee is a well-known artist in the Latin music genre, debuting at #1 numerous times in his career. Barrio Fino is his most popular album. My favorite song was No Mes Dejas Solo (Don’t Leave Me Alone). It’s a really fun song that you could play at a party.

The album is filled with cool songs. He even has won an award at the Street Jam Reggae Awards for five years in a row and he has been in the top five Latin artists for most of his career. His YouTube channel, where he uploads songs, has over 24 million subscribers, with his videos getting millions of views.

Like many other Latin artists, his music is upbeat and full of energy. A song where this is most apparent is Descontrol. It has about 94 million views on YouTube and people still watch it to this day. I didn’t know what he was saying sometimes, but it sounded very coo. It’s really easy to get into it even if you don’t speak the language.

In 2011 Yankee became the most streamed artist on the platform in the Latin genre. He had more streams then the entire population of Puerto Rico. A lot of newer Latin artist have taken big inspiration from Yankee. One artist I heard was Maluma. I heard in an interview that he listened to Yankee a lot and wanted to get into the industry.

When his career is over, Daddy Yankee will go down as one of the most well-known and greatest Latin artists of our generation and I definitely look forward to listening to more by him.
