Stevie earns the crown and the title in her first pageant.

Stevie Nettles has had a lot going on recently. She’s an IB student with a heavy classload, typical IB testing and activities. In February, she was featured in The Armijo Signal as one of the students who celebrates her birthday on Valentine’s Day. “I like that I am unique, but I hate not having a special day to myself,” she shared in that issue. Her unique spirit has definitely paid off.

On Sunday, May 19, at Vacaville Ulatis Cultural Center, Nettles was crowned Miss Solano County 2019. It was the first time that she had participated in a pageant and, according to Susan Hiland in the Daily Republic, she had been inspired when she saw last year’s winners at an event in December.

“It’s very exciting and it will offer me some great opportunities throughout the year,” Nettles told the local reporter.

Shortly after being crowned, over the Memorial Day weekend, she participated in her first event, Fiesta Days in Vacaville. It was her chance to promote good will to the local community. She and her fellow pageant winnters were part of the parade and spent some time strolling around the streets of Vacaville, engaging the visitors in conversation, a skill that Nettles finds especially meaningful.

In the fall, she will be going off to Temple University in Philadelphia, but she will continue representing Solano County and is expected to attend events when she is home for holidays. “Stevie is going to continue with pursuing pageants. She may participate in Miss Philadelphia or Miss California. It will all depend on the timing and commitment,” said her mother, Ms. Rechelle Nettles.

At Temple, she plans to study for a career in Broadcast Journalism.
