Volunteering is very beneficial and often necessary for graduating high school. Students are required to have specific number of volunteer hours (also known as CAS hours) from their junior and senior years.

Volunteering, however, is not just beneficial to graduate high school but may also be done for the experience and acquiring new skills. It can also be very fun to help those in need without donating money and instead showing care for free.In addition, volunteering looks great on college and job applications as it shows off your skills. Some organizations appreciate volunteerism so much that they give out scholarships for it. If students are interested in volunteering in the local area, some places which always need volunteers are:

  1. North Bay- to work with patients and help learn about medical sciences.
  2. Fairfield Civic Center Library– for people who like reading and love books.
  3. The Leaven– to work with kids from 1st- 5th grade to tutor them for homework and other activities.
  4. Elementary schools– to work with kids for after school programs.
  5. Food Bank– to help low- income families by providing free foods.
