Andrew Saghir is the Class of 2017 Salutatorian. The title means that he has the second highest GPA in the class. Like many of his classmates, he’s headed to college in the fall. Unlike his classmates, however, he has paid attention to his standing. He actually found out about his role when he checked his class rank. “It feels pretty good,” he said.

College might take a while for Saghir as he has big plans. “I hope to be a cardiothoracic surgeon,” he said. While in high school, in addition to earning impressive grades, he has participated in the Model United Nations and the National Honor Society. He also participated in the Academic Decathlon and has earned his high grades in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. He has been on the varsity tennis team since his freshman year. This year he and his teammate AJ Freeman made it into the Monticello Empire League (MEL) finals.

Saghir, an only child, came to Armijo as a freshman in August 2013. He continues to enjoy tennis, even outside of school, but he also likes reading and playing guitar. He said that his role model is Morgan Freeman.

While he is leaving Armijo behind, he did mention that he would like to see some changes. “I would change the bathrooms,” he said. “The bathrooms are always dirty.”
