Looking forward to ‘21

For four nights during March, the campus was overrun with students from various middle schools, all preparing to become Armijo students.

On Wednesday, March 1, eighth graders from Holy Spirit as well as Grange and about 25% of Crystal Middle Schools, and 33% of the incoming IB students met with their future counselors.

They were followed on Thursday, March 2, by students from B. Gale Wilson, Suisun Valley and David Weir schools, plus the second 25% of Crystal Middle School and about a third of the incoming IB 9th grade students.

The next week, on Wednesday, March 8, the incoming freshmen from Sheldon and Oakbrook joined the next 25% of Crystal Middle School students and the final group of incoming IB students came to register.

The final members of the Class of 2021 came on Thursday, March 9 and included students from Green Valley and the remaining 25% of Crystal Middle School. This day was also set aside for students who had missed their earlier assigned days.

At times, the lines wrapped from the front of the library to the back and curved along the back wall. Parents came with their children to fill out the emergency cards, collect the transcripts from middle school, choose electives and talk to their counselors to secure their classes.

Traditionally, students and teachers have attended to promote their classes and clubs in anticipation of the new school year, but this year there were only a few representatives. Colonel Edward Bruce was in attendance and his ROTC students were promoting their class. They also helped out by leading families on tours of the campus and directing them to the proper lines. Ms. Lynne Herring was also there, passing out information about The Armijo Signal and encouraging students to sign up for the anticipated Journalism class. Mr. Michael Blum represented the Guitar Club one night and Mr. Cesar Correa (wrestling), Mr. D.J. Bowen (girls’ basketball) and Mr. Joe Klapper (golf) promoted their respective sports.

Classes for all grades were being settled before Spring Break and current Armijo students were informed at the end of March and in the beginning of April of their results.
